Mister Miracle and Big Barda join in on the action in Superman: The Coming of the Superman #5.
Where to read Superman: The Coming of the Supermen #5:
- Hardcover collected edition of issues #1-6 – (my review here)
- Digital comics – available on Kindle and Comixology
Previously – Superman: The Coming of the Supermen #4
Superman’s hunt for Rafi continues in this issue. It appears the loss of the boy is starting to drive him mad. Superman has been very angry this entire series, but is he on the verge of snapping?
The addition of Mister Miracle and Big Barda in this issue was a fun one. Barda got a chance to show of her strength and Scott Free was also able to help in his own ways.
While I did enjoy this issue because of the characters involved, I’m not really sure where the story is heading. With this being the second to last issue, you think we’d have an idea how it might end. I’m not sure what we’ll be getting in issue #6.
While the story hasn’t impressed me that much so far, I am enjoying the characters. Seeing forces from New Genesis, New Krypton, and Apokolips interact is very interesting. This is the case even when some of their dialogue isn’t great.
I was disappointed by a lesson role for Orion, but I think that was done to make room for Barda and Miracle. He did get some fun action, but it was mostly in the background. On the bright side, the Supermen did return in this. They still don’t have a major role, though.
The Superman and Lois subplot has felt a little forced so far. I’m not sure what their history is in this continuity. They seem to spend most of their time arguing before moving closer romantically.
This mini-series wraps up next with issue #6. I’m eager to see how Darkseid and Lex Luthor’s evil plan comes to fruition and what other forces help out Superman.
